I have noticed that a race horse that has had a recent wind operation runs better; how do I find out if a race horse has had the operation.

Answer: There is no requirement for trainers to reveal whether a horse has had a wind op although they may well make the information available on their official website.

The Racing Post website or paper will often give this information if you check their race card Comments

Hi Ron

Thanks for that information - most helpful.

If you know of any other trainers with wind op horses, their comments on these pages would be most welcome.

Just Glamorous 45-1 Winner after undisclosed op
by: Anonymous

7Oct17 Ascot (5GS, RPR 108)

His breathing has been troubling him ever since he won his Group 3 and we found out his larynx had collapsed. Just Glamorous was only getting 30 per cent airway. He had an operation six weeks before his last run and he just needed that run. We almost went for the Abbaye last week, but we don't have to rush as he's only four. He'll either go to Dubai, but be put away now I'd have thought - Ron Harris, trainer.

Wind Op Winner
by: Rob Reid

Lots of times we have been turned over due to a wind op that we only find out about AFTER a race.

Best example I can think of was Big Buck's return to racing (string of 19 wins in a row was on the line) he went of as 6/5 fav (after a year off due to an injury), with a rating of 174 and was beaten into 3rd by a 66/1 shot Knockara Beau rated 145.

We only heard about Knockara Beau's wind operation after the race and it obviously had an affect as he also beat the main challenger At Fishers Cross 5/1.

There was talk after this race that it should be mentioned before hand by trainers as it can make a huge difference to the horses performance.

I don't know how much this operation costs but I bet its only the quality racehorse that has this operation.
