Why would a horse only have one race?

by Keanie

I own One More Pusey and from what I can see she only had one race as a 3-year-old and never raced again - trying to put together a picture of her history and would like to know more.

Answer: The mare One More Pusey was owned by C R Marks of Banbury and trained by John Gallagher. She contested just one 6f maiden auction race at Brighton May 2015.

When a horse has only a brief racing career it is usually because the owner realizes there is little chance of recouping the training costs in prize money.

It is also possible the horse sustains an injury during a race or in training which curtails its racing career.

I have made further inquiries regarding the mare and will update this post if any information is forthcoming.

I have now received the following information from One More Pusey's trainer Rebecca Gallagher:

Yes we had One More Pusey for Jim Long. Jim had the Dam in training and that is why she was called One More Pusey because Jim has had so many of the Pusey horses in training!

We bought her from the breeder Trickledown Stud as they had the mare and owned some of the stallion. So we had her from a yearling.

She just wasn't a racehorse from what I remember she didn't hurt herself she was just not quick enough. We took her to Ascot sales.

Glad it sounds like she has a good home.
