What is the highest Spotform rating in the Daily Mirror and is it different for flat and NH?
Answer: Back in 2011 the Spotform ratings were dependent on the class of race a horse was running in; in a class 5 race the top rated would have a figure of 30, for a class 4 it was 32 and 38 for a class 3.
At this time the Daily Mirror changed the rating to reflect how the horse rated compared to the other runners in a race. This they felt more accurately reflected its chance of winning. The new method gave greater clarity and the ability to compare performances.
This method means that the highest Spotform rating is only relevant in the context of the race; to compare the highest rating recorded to any other race is therefore of no consequence.
This applies to both Flat and National Hunt races.
