As a lifelong enthusiast of equestrian sports, I've been captivated by horse racing. As a youngster I would race my sister riding our ponies bareback round the paddock at home. Of course this ancient sport, steeped in tradition, has been thrilling spectators on racecourses for centuries.

You’ve only got to visit a racecourse once to realise that the thoroughbreds thundering down these tracks are no ordinary horses; they're carefully bred and meticulously selected for their racing prowess.

In my experience following the sport, I've become aware of the rigorous training, by such renowned trainers as Bob Baffert in the States  and Aiden O’Brien in Ireland, that’s required to achieve peak health and strength.

Their weight, speed, and movement are scrutinized with expert eyes. When I’ve watched them walking proudly around the parade ring before a race you marvel at their sheer glowing physicality.

Many of  the finest thoroughbreds often dominate the track for years, bringing fame and fortune to their owners and bookmakers alike.

A good few books have been written tracing back the history of horse racing and its origins and that this pastime was once the preserve of the wealthy elite.

However, what fascinates me most is how it has evolved into a universal passion. From its inception, the sport has been inextricably linked with gambling, a tradition that continues to this day.

In fact, you can’t fail to notice that modern technology has expanded its reach, with online platforms now offering myriad betting options. The stakes can be breathtakingly high, adding an extra layer of excitement to this already exhilarating sport.

Let’s take a look at just a few of the greatest race horses of all time.

Man o’War

Man o' War is a legendary name in the world of Thoroughbred horses. He won 20 of 21 races after World War I, setting three world records, two American records, and three racetrack records. It’s one of the biggest regrets that his owner wouldn’t let him get the Triple Crown, which is considered at energy casino one of the biggest achievements in horse racing.

He only lost once, when he was running warm-up laps and had his back to the starting line when the barrier was raised.

As a two-year-old, he weighed 59 kg in six races, a weight few horses have carried at any age. Man o' War was inducted into the National Racehorse Museum and Hall of Honor in 1957. He was ranked the best horse of the 20th century by both Blood-Horse and Sports Illustrated magazines.

Secretariat

Secretariat at StudSecretariat at Stud

Secretariat was an amazing American racehorse who won lots of awards. He was a strong, resilient, and undeniably amazing stallion who was victorious in race after race also at Casino bonus, sometimes even making a comeback from last place to first.

Secretariat was named "Horse of the Year" twice and, in the Kentucky Derby, he set a new record for each race. At the Preakness Stakes on Casino bonus, he amazed everyone when he managed to come back from last position and win the race. On top of that, he won the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths in a record time that's still pretty tough to beat.

In 1973, he won the American Triple Crown series, which made him famous in the US. He was considered by many to be the best American racehorse besides Man o' War. Experts say he's probably the best racehorse ever. He had a 16-3-1 record in 21 races, earning $1,316,808 for his owner.

American Pharoah

In 2015, American Pharoah took home the Breeder's Cup Classic and the American Triple Crown. He was rewarded with many important prizes throughout his career. In fact, Pharoah was the first racehorse to win all four competitions from the Thoroughbred event.

American Pharoah finished fifth in his first race, but he improved his results after that. Unfortunately, he had to take a year off due to an injury.

Despite taking a year off, the horse was named "American Champion Two-Year-Old Male Horse" as one of the fastest horses and energycasino endorsed that at the 2014 Eclipse Awards. In 2015, he won the Arkansas Derby, the Rebel Stakes, the Preakness Stakes, and the Kentucky Derby.

In the Belmont Stakes that same year, he amazed everyone with his speed, winning with a better time than even Secretariat. So he proved himself worthy of the title of "12th American Triple Crown Winner" in horse racing history.

Seattle Slew

Secretariat won over the public with his looks, while Seattle Slew was seen as a bit of an ugly horse. This was especially true at Casino bonus at first glance, especially given its origin. The horse wasn't accepted into the Keeneland Yearling Sale at first. He was later sold in Washington, where he began his racing career.

His record speaks for itself: 14-2-0, and $1,208,726 in winnings. Up until Justify showed up in 2018, he was the first horse to win the American Triple Crown without ever losing a race.

In 1977, he was named American Horse of the Year at energycasino. He beat the odds and came back from a near-fatal illness to win the Marlboro Cup with a world record. He was so popular that a term, "Slewmania," was even coined on the racetracks.

Concluding our article on the fastest horses and Energycasino

Reflecting on the world of horse racing, I'm always struck by its captivating blend of history, athleticism, and excitement. From the legendary Man o' War to the recent triumph of American Pharoah, I've witnessed how these extraordinary thoroughbreds have left their hoofprints not just on the tracks, but in my heart and those of racing enthusiasts worldwide.

Their stories of perseverance, speed, and sometimes even unlikely success remind me why this sport continues to thrill centuries after its inception.

In my years following racing, I've come to understand that the greatest racehorses possess a unique combination of breeding, training, and that indefinable quality that sets champions apart.

Whether it's Secretariat's record-breaking Triple Crown sweep, Seattle Slew's undefeated rise to glory, or American Pharoah's grand slam of major titles, I've seen these equine athletes demonstrate the pinnacle of what's possible in the sport.

It's very special to realise that, in fact, I am witnessing history in the making, the evolution of horse racing from an elite pastime to a global phenomenon, which speaks to its enduring appeal.

With modern technology expanding access to the sport and its betting aspects, I've noticed how horse racing continues to adapt while maintaining its rich traditions.

As I look to the future, I am aware that horse racing around the world is facing challenges from climate change, animal welfare and competition from a plethora of other sports.

But despite all the problems I'm sure that new legends will emerge to join the ranks of these unforgettable thoroughbreds, and continue to preserve horse racing's place as one of the most thrilling and beloved sports in my world.
