Spotform ratings have been around for decades.

My question is: Why is it 78 ? Where did that particular number originate ? This has puzzled a friend and myself for some time.

I knew the rating has been 78 for a long long time and doesn't surprise me it goes back to 1957.
I still wonder how the editor at the time came up with that number. I guess we'll never know.
