Racehorses with one eye overcome their disability

Did Steve Norton train a horse with one eye and have other horses run with one eye?
Steve Norton was training in the 1980's and there is no record of his running a horse with one eye.
It is not uncommon for horses with this disability to race on the flat and over jumps - they soon adapt.
Well known horses include:
IMPERIALISM - POLLARDS VISION - STORM IN MAY who were all successful racehorses.
Comments for Racehorses with one eye overcome their disability
I was offered to buy this Mizzou Gelding from a friend in Ireland but did not need him last year - I got a call that he had rolled in his box, hit his head and detached his retina - so I decided to take a chance on him - very nervous when he arrived but has settled well now. That was his first run yesterday 28 Nov at Catterick giving those costly horses a fright and beaten by just 3 lengths - going to be a star! Samwise - Owners myself and Lady Samantha Toomes.

One-eyed Belper by: Anonymous
As a student at Aston university, Birmingham a few of us got hooked on horse-racing.
A friend of mine who considered himself an expert highly recommended us placing bets on Belper.
After we won ( handsomely ) we asked him the secret.
His explanation was that this particular track curved in such a way that it helped Belper see from his good eye. If the track had turned the other way Belper would not be in the race!

One eyed horse trained in Scotland by: stewartie
The late George Boyd successfully trained a one-eyed horse named Cyclops (geddit?) from his base at Dunbar where he used the local beach as a gallop. This would be in the late 1950s early 1960s

My dad was the lad that 'did' Belper when he worked for John Dunlop, he was born with only one eye and one side of his quarters was higher than the other, but one of the biggest money winners dad ever did. Lived well into his twenties, sadly neither of them are with us any more.

Belper by: Mike
As a student in the early 70s, I used to bet on horses in a small way. Belper was one of the horses I used to follow. Won small amounts betting on it to place. Odds were usually favourable, maybe because of its blindness.

One eyed Belper by: C Ross
I saw Belper run at Epsom on Derby Day 1976(I think, I'm now 50 and that was 37 odd years ago)Empery won the Derby that day. I remember him because he had one eye and he won the City and Suburban Handicap at Epsom in 1974, I understand it was a listed race then. I now have a mare related to him, who is in foal to Poet's Voice and visits Dawn Approach in 2015. He was born in 1969 and was by Busted (Bustino's sire) out of Maurine (who was by Worden, Grundy's broodmare sire). His 1/2 sisiter won the Musidora Stakes at York. He was uncle to French Gold Cup winner Recupere and his Great Grandam Mackwiller won the French 1,000 Gns. Her descendants include Cheveley Park winners, Midget and Ma Biche and more recently this years Dewhurst winner Belardo (Racing Post European Champion 2-y-o).
