HORSE RACING EQUIPMENT

Native River wearing a noseband

What does the letter e stand for in equipment?

Answer: This probably is an abbreviation for eye shield. Abbreviations for headgear worn by a racehorse are shown on racecards after the name of a horse.

The eye shield is worn usually when racing on all weather tracks as the sand or synthetic material can get thrown into a horses face.

Other examples of commonly used headgear include:

Blinkers
Visors
Cheekpieces
Hood
Tongue Tie
Noseband
