Cost of an exacta bet

How much would a ticket cost for a ten dollar exacta box with four horses?

Answer: Using $1 as a base bet cost, the total amount would be $12. For a ten dollar base the cost would be $120.

The bet is calculated with the formula:

4 * (4-1) * $1 = $12

However betting a 4 horse exacta may not prove a profitable bet as all the horses may not have the same chance of finishing first or second.
