If i bet a day before the race, do i get paid what the odds were then or what they will be tomorrow,it doesn't say on my docket, was i supposed to ask at the counter.

Answer: When you place a bet at any time you can usually ask for an early price. If one is not available or you did not request one then the bet, if successful, will pay out at the starting Price on the day of the race.
