Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter January 28, 2024 |
Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter No newsletter last week due to the storms taking away our power for two days over the weekend and by the time I could send it we had old news! So here is a bumper edition to make up. The weather last week was freezing with the staff working in -9 conditions – every horse got out and did steady work. The hardest task was defrosting and carrying water to 45 horses! Luckily we had few runners and concentrated on getting all the runners in the next few weeks fitter. We did have one runner this week in Royal Prospect for Shaun Humphries. He won two weeks ago and followed it up this week with a very good 2nd ridden again by Cam Hardie. The horse that won went on to win again a few days later so we look forward to 'p's next run. 'Jimmybegood' replaced Naughty George when he lost him to an infection. He has been a slow process having issues with his lungs – just catching lots of coughs and colds. Finally he made it to a racecourse gallop and made a brilliant account of himself over 7 furlongs and will run in his first race all being well on the 10th Feb at Newcastle hopefully ridden by Harry Russell who came to Newcastle to ride him this week – I have shares left in him if you know of anyone?? En Meme Temp stopped clearing his feed and we discovered he had a fractured tooth – we use one of the worlds leading Dental surgeons from Edinburgh. It took 3 hours as the root was bent – poor Meme he is eating a lot better now! First pic is a new horse 'Albert' or Charizard he is here to be assessed whether he will make the grade – looks good so far and maybe 4 weeks away from a run. All the three year olds bar one are back in work and going nicely. This week we are busy with runners at Newcastle including first time out for us Pinot Rouge – she has ran in a point to Point a year ago. This is Bob also goes to Newcastle as does Kingston Rock. Rock Steady Eddie will wait till Wetherby the week after. Then we have another three out at Catterick Friday followed by Les's Legacy at Musselburgh and another new to us 'Theatre Light out next Monday at Carlisle with our Head Lads horse Just Oot in his second bumper – he is for sale and a very nice young horse. So the week ahead:- 30th January Newcastle – Kingston Rock 0 – 100 2.6 and This is Bob – if we get in... Pinot Rouge novice hurdle 2nd Feb Champ Royal in his qualifier up a grade but we are using Edward Austin to Claim 5lb off his back so he should still run well – he aims at the final in April.
