Hi

Susan Corbett's Newsletter

An interesting week with the 3 runners at Carlisle all doing fine... Wee Alki is his first outing under rules – nearly spoilt the plan of C'Est Different by coming from miles back to just be beaten ¾ l. Young Jack Power, who rode him, did not give up – he is Lucindas Conditional jockey and one of three we use to claim weight off the horse, along with Ben Smith and the more experienced Conor Rabbitt. Next was See a Stride – another one of our bargain buys and she was again just beaten ½ l ridden by Henry Brooke. Gloria had her first run for us and the GRClub and Craig Nichol reported she was a strong madam and needed a Flat track as she ran too freely down the hills and thus played out her energy.

Off to Market Rasen next with Sunset Hill – she ran a great race we were beaten by 4 l and only ¾ l from 3rd. A competitive race where we held our own with a mare who has more maturing to do – so very happy with the runners this week. Young Abi, who is our Student, has just signed up for her NVQ2 and she won her first ever Best Turned Out – with her phone resting on Sunnys bottom as she studied UTUBE how to plait a tail!

On staff matters Bekah Duffy ( Joshs Sister ) had bad luck when she lost Wild Polly, her Point to Pointer who gave Bekah her first win from her first ever PTP. She went off to Newmarket this week and completed her Amateur Jockey course so we now have our very own lady Amateur! She passed with flying colours:- the fitness is very tough and her overall mark was 93%. Above the Industry standard for Commitment, Control of the horse, Taking Instruction and fitness. Amanda continues to recover 3 months to go before she is allowed back on a horse or to drive. She pops up once a week and helps with office work. So we currently have

Jamie Assistant Trainer – looks after the day to day training programmes of the individual horses.

Josh Head Lad – looks after the day to day running of the yard.

Bekah – new Amateur Jockey!

Caitlin – ex Phil Kirby and doing her NVQ3

Abi - ex Rebecca Menzies and doing her NVQ2

Amanda – hopefully back soon

Sunday Staff – Lucy and Nichola

We have also changed feed brand from Red Mills to Saracen – this is a trial but appears to be working well. We had Robert who was himself a jockey assessing each horse for nutritional needs on the yard this week. Our own Haylage was also tested and found to be of a high nutritional value.

SHARES

Wee Alki – he now takes up residence in the Naughty But Nice Syndicate and I am buying him from Josh and his friend David – so we are offering shares to have a group of no more than 20. He looks like he will be a good fun horse and Jack reported he will need further.... Please let me know asap if you are interested in a share – starting from £400.00 plus £120.00 for 5%.

RACE PLANS

We are building up now to see how many we have in the Go North Series Finals 21st – 23rd March so a few runners between now and then but hopefully all guns blazing that weekend.

Today – Clear Angel a non runner due to a foot infection.

25th February Catterick Les Legacy in the Ladies Amateur with Tash Cookson aboard ( Bekahs licence not through in time ) Tash is another young jockey who rides out for us.

Velasco – with Nathan riding – both last runs before their finals.

3rd March Newcastle O Faolains Glory.

That's all for now!
