Hi

Susan Corbett's Newsletter:

Jamie and I set off for Doncaster sales to sell Infinite Honour to dissolve a partnership because Daryl and Shaun have upgraded to Crimson Road. However I was not that keen to let him go and we did have 5 people looking – he is a little quirky and no one got to touch his legs! Whether that turned people off I do not know but I ended up buying him back for a new racing syndicate in partnership with Frank who has always owned 50%. So we have 50% up for grabs let me know anyone who is interested this week please. He will be back in work Monday and head for a Spring Flat campaign.

The part I like best ( not selling lol ) was to look for a new horse for the Girsonfield Racing Club. Lot 14 was O' Faolains Glory an 8 year old filly who has won a chase and a hurdle. Small in stature but look at her jump! The handicapper has given her a mark of 99 over both codes – they always put them up coming from Ireland. She will run the 3rd week of Feb as she only ran on boxing day. I think she will be a fun filly for the summer and I may even get to Cartmel this year – suit her down to the ground. We still have a few shares left in the GRC if anyone wants to join in with her?

Then the storm hit – we sustained some damage and it was frightening – some roof repairs needed and a few trees down – I decided fairly early that Velasco was not travelling in that weather so we pulled out of Doncaster Friday. There were lorries overturned a few miles away so I do not regret that! Saturday was different altogether but we again paid the price of the wind – drying out the ground at Doncaster. It was claimed good to soft but it was Good ground which did not suit Pinot or Sunny. They still tried their best and jumped well in big races for them – they needed the experience and now we will only run them on soft/ heavy in the future. Jamie won Best Turned Out with Sunny – Bekah missed out but not sure why as Pinot looked great!

This week we kick off properly with lots of horses ready to run. Rocky - we have pinpointed his issue which is fixable. A new idea from BHA is schooling trials – for young horses to practise bumpers, hurdles or Fences. It's a new initiative from BHA - £100.00 per horse and first is at Musselburgh in Feb – excellent idea to get them used to racing before an actual race day.
