Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter March 20, 2024 |
Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter: Great run from Rocky at Hexham – Kaidu is sorted now and has an entry at Newcastle Friday – need to see if he is fit enough this week tho as he had a week off – will let you all know soon.
We have achieved our target for the season to beat our best ever season:- 2017 ( jumps only ) 104k from 148 runs with 13 wins and 58 places 2024 108k from 92 runs with 11 wins and 37 places Long may it continue with your support! The rest of the week in focus.... We hope to have found good homes for the retirees Gowanbuster and Ask my Heather – reschooled by Jamie and Josh they behaved very well indeed! Next up we went to Newcastle were Infinite Honour defied his 150/1 odds to be 5th and beat some good horses – he needs further but will stick to a mile on the turf as the ground is still so soft. Then we were off to Hexham where we had three runners. First up was Rock Steady Eddie for the Girsonfield Racing Club having his third run for his handicap mark – we hoped he would be in the places but never expected he would be so close ( 2nd ) to the Nicky Richards horse rated 116 – he nearly won! And watching the head on much later he was robbed as t'other horse crossed his path at least twice! Then it was the turn of Atomic Angel who was 3rd and made a good account of herself – better if it had been a faster pace of a race but she will go again soon. This is Bob was joint Favourite – he came 3rd and is still just learning or maybe we are still learning what he is good at! Saturday was busy with Foal watch full steam ahead with Bahrikate being over her time – so after Josh and I taking turns staying up at nights she popped her daughter out at 10.30am! All the staff were able to watch as most had never seen a mare foal – Bahrikate is not that good at it but Josh was on hand to help her. Johnny Dogs came up with a fat joint so missed Newcastle however Les's Legacy, ridden by Edward Austin, gave his best performance of the season to be 2nd to a horse carrying 19 lb less in ground that he would not be in love with. Today we had the AGM for the Nelson Racing partnership who had something to celebrate with Blame Rose winning the week before by 15 lengths. Their fillies are growing and will both be broken in this summer then turned away to mature while the mare Ebony Rose foals in the next 4 weeks to Schiaparelli again – ordered a colt this time. I do not mind fillies as they are registered for the British Bred fillies 20K bonuses! The staff had a good week with happy owners bearing gifts! We also had lots of publicity from Ireland to the Hexham Courant – with a good piece in the Racing Post courtesy of Steve H ! Our jockeys this season have done us proud all winning – Sam, Nathan and Edward – still 6 weeks to go! Next week Friday – maybe Kaidu at Newcastle – Buddy at Hexham along with Kingston Rock Atomic Angel- the jury still out... Saturday we hope to run Clear Angel at Doncaster – waiting for scope results Monday. We will soon be at the finals 5.6 7th April where I hope to have a few runners so we may be quiet before then....... Susan: email:girsonfield@outlook.com Tel: 7713651215
