Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Back With Insider News June 19, 2023 |
Hi Susan Corbett is back: Dates for the diary 12th August Owners Open day 2.00pm followed by a BBQ 9th September National Racehorse week 10.30 – 3.00pm So a very exciting day at Hexham yesterday with 3 out of 4 horses exceeding expectations! The week started with an inspection for the sibling of Naughty George being inspected for the yearling sales in October at Tattersalls. More horses are being turned out for their summer break and most will be back in by 1st August – some of the jumpers still in work as shown at Hexham! Staff – changes – it’s the time of year that staff often move on and we are no exception with Emma moving after 7 years at the yard – from Student to Travelling head lass and nominated for many accolades on the way. Dillan completed his Conditional Jockey contract and has achieved his best ever results in his year with us. We wish them the best in the future. Meanwhile we welcome back (again!) Josh Duffy who has been attached to the yard since he was 12! He has worked for many trainers including James Ewart, Sandy Thompson and more recently Emmett Mullins – Josh led up Noble Yeats and was interviewed on ITV. Josh has come back in the senior Position of Head Lad and his experience will be invaluable. He also brings Laura to the yard who is presently part time until the horses are in from their break. She is doing office work and is an excellent rider. So we have Donna, Amanda, Jamie, Josh and Laura! A very strong team indeed! Amanda and Jamie did a First Aid course on Friday – its time to get all these important jobs sorted while there are few horses to ride – with luck our roof may get fixed next week! IDEA – one of our owners has suggested we add a charge of £20.00 per month per Owner/Syndicate/ Club to give every three months to the staff as a ‘cost of living bonus’. To quote ‘ It is important to have good staff and everyone should be appreciative of what they do in looking after our horses so we can have winners and memorable days out’ Which I am sure you all are. So if we have 16 owners/ groups so that would be 320 per month 960 per quarter and therefore a bonus of £200.00 per staff member. I think this is a super idea – if anyone madly disagrees please get in touch – otherwise we will start that from July. – Happy Staff Happy Horses! Runners Hexham saw Beaumesnil beaten a neck into 2nd place in only his 2nd start – still two shares left in the partnership for Him and Johnny Dogs. Konik King did not go a yard and had a infection issue which we are now treating. Next came Velasco and pleased to report that he won! Thanks to Samantha and the team for having faith – it was his last run for the Club and goes into private ownership now to stay on the yard – with new boy Rock Steady Eddie filing the gap in the Racing Club. Jessica Rabbit ran very well after a year off – Jamie Hamilton is sure she will be a few places better than 5th next time! So a 1st, 2nd 5th and 0 – must try harder for the runners at Hexham next week!
This weeks Runners Wednesday 21st 8.20 Newcastle Mekbat with Cam Hardie over 1 mile – I expect improvement on his last run. Sunday 25th June Wor Verge – a choice of races Blame Rose – should show improvement on her last run to be placed
