Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter February 16, 2025 |
Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter: First of all our thoughts are with the family and friends of Michael O’Sullivan age 24 who has sadly lost his fight for life after a racecourse accident in Ireland this week.
A very mixed week ( no change there! ) Blame Rose I was expecting to be at least first 3 and she just did not turn up! Turns out her original wind op lasts 1 – 2 years and we were in the 18th month so she was dropped off at the Dick Vet in Edinburgh and operated on the next day! Three weeks and she will be ready again – that’s what I call service from the head at the Dick Vet – thanks Padraig! Pinot was pulled up at Wetherby - a rare occurrence for the yard – they went too fast circa 31 miles per hour her usual winning speed is 27 ave – ran off her feet is my opinion so held up next time…… Better times at Newcastle with Li Shang in his first bumper and no disgrace at 6th he looks a likely winner next time out. Kilmore Rock, who needs better ground and further, made a good account of himself ( 6th ) with young Jockey Conor Rabbitt claiming 5lbs. Conor also rode Champ at Kelso – a few issues in the running of the race – Conor snatching him up just as the tap was turned on – to avoid an accident. He was still 7/12, on this occasion it was a very slowly ran race, but that gets us all ready for the 3 miles final at Musselburgh in March. Bekah goes down to Newmarket to apply for her Amateur Jockeys licence this week – she is very good and you may remember won her first ever PTP. There will be a few opportunities for her on the yard – thinking the ladies jockeys race at Cartmel where you win the diamonds! It is hard to get a licence so fingers crossed – that’s Tues/Wed. Foals are growing into yearlings while the two home bred horses in training are getting ready to run. So to this week – busy day tomorrow with 24 Owners coming along to Carlisle for our three runners. It’s the last run for Wee Alki as we then have to buy him from Josh and his friend and so a new group/ Owners will take him over – all being well - of course! Stride goes in the Maiden because I though it would be quite weak and no handicaps for a while. First run for The GRC for new girl O’Faolains Glory ridden by Craig Nichol while Henry Brooke rides Stride and young Jack Power rides Alki. Nathan is otherwise engaged for Rebecca riding at Southwell on a horse that won last time out – I don’t mind sharing lol – especially when the two replacements are top Northern Jocs. Next up is Market Rasen with Sunset Hill – yes ground could be softer but we are still learning about her and she has some good races coming up that we need to know the best way forward, currently 6 runners! Then Saturday Jamie does the Southwell trip with Clear Angel – rated 72 and this is a prep run as we are aiming for the Lincoln ( Spring Mile ) in March. Phew! Dates 17th Carlisle Wee Alki, See a Stride and Gloria 18th Market Rasen…. Sunset Hill 22nd Southwell…. Clear Angel Best Susan Ps thanks to David Thompson who sent a vid to ITV Home Schooling of Freddie and Hope ( Dotties Promise ) at the water walkway. Photo: Clear Angel strutting! And so he should – from 52 rated to 80...
