7 races at meetings

by Steve
(UK)

Why do most meetings in UK have 7 races

Answer: It has been found over time that 7 races for a meeting are optimum. As there are usually 2 races per hour a meeting will last for 4 hours which is as long as most racegoers wish to stay on course.

There is also the need to stagger the starts of races over the day's meetings for betting purposes thus avoiding clashes of races starting and ending at the same times.

However 6 or 8 race meetings are not unusual.
